From July 1st to 3rd, theVFDU Rescue Challenge 2011 took place in Sinntal, Germany. The contest of the VDFU is known as the German championship of vehicle extrication. A good opportunity for firemen to exchange know-how and learn with and from each other!

Due to the importance of knowledge transfer between rescuers, LUKAS supported the event as one of the two main sponsors. All in all, 17 teams from Germany, Austria and Switzerland took benefit from a competition on highest level, with challenging realistic scenarios and evaluations from Medic and Rescue experts.

Constructive criticism after the contest

At the Rescue Challenge scenarios are - as far as safety guideline approved - as close as possible to reality. The speciality: Within the vehicles experts were acting like real injured persons and evaluating the rescue work at close range.
Afterwards they gave feedback to the teams and individual performances were reviewed in detail. At that point, each member of the team received constructive feedback: Medics, Tool & Safety and the captains.

Valuable experience for real life emergency

It was the fire brigade from Kaltenkirchen who finished the contest in first place. But in the end, all of the participating teams were winners. Because experience from practice and strategies for coordinated and patient-oriented rescue operations can be of vital importance in cases of emergency. Just as well as robust high-performance rescue equipment that absolutely reliably supports the rescue!

LUKAS thanks all of the participants and the organizers for a successful event and congratulates the winning teams. It was especially pleasant that so many new teams participated.
The date for the Rescue Challenge 2012 has also already been fixed: it will take place from June 29th to July 1st 2012 in Pfaffenweiler, Breisgau, Germany.
